The Southern Indiana Angus association is pleased to announce that Jake Saunders of Cloverdale, Indiana is winner of the association’s $750 scholarship award. Jake, son of Karl and Glenda Gillette, is currently a sophomore at Purdue University majoring in biology. As a past president of the Indiana Junior Angus Association and past exhibitor at National Junior Angus shows, Jake has developed his herd and his admiration of Angus cattle. Jake is also very involved in many Purdue activities and has plans to get his PhD in biology. After college, Jake has plans to become a leader in the academic world and plans to continue developing his own Angus herd. We are proud to announce Jake Saunders as our first scholarship recipient and wish him much success in his career goals!

NOTES FROM IAA BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
August 22, 2009
Bruce Lamb, President called the meeting to order at 3:52 PM following an excellent program and tour of Purdue’s cattle facilities and herd. Minutes were approved and treasurer’s report was accepted.
Steve Patton, Jr. Advisor gave a report on the NJAS held in Georgia. Indiana should be very proud of their juniors as they won many awards. Indiana was represented with 55 head of superior Angus. The juniors would like to get their logo on their trailer before they have another trip.
Chris Wickard, Vice President, needs entries by 9/1/09 for Hoosier Beef Congress Sale.
Jack Sweeney reported that the Preview will be held at Lebanon in 2010. The dates being the same time in June: 16-19. In 2009 there were 7 “First-time exhibitors”.
Jack also reported that the State Fair had 47 Angus heifer entries and 10 steer entries. There were 69 head for the Open Show.
Jay Davis reported on the Directory. 1800 copies were printed, with 112 pages per book. He commented that Lou Ooley does an outstanding job and is great to work with.
In case of a death of a paid member of the IAA ,a policy was established that states “$50 will be given to the AA Foundation in memory of the deceased or immediate member of the household”.

Jerry Cassady, reported that the budget has been tightened at headquarters. He also reported that Boot Camp would be Sept. 22, 23 at Michigan State.
